Brian's Attempt to Keep His Dignity in Tact (what is left of it)

I just read Cathy's blog and was willing to let it go at that. I figured I had lost all credibility by letting the TV out of the house (all though that will be changing soon - we are actually selling it and getting a slightly smaller one that will fit in the armoire where it can be locked up and hidden away). I wanted to go to bed with what dignity I had left in tact. I told my neighbor the other day what I had done in taking the TV out and he said, 'I don't know of any husband that would do that - you must really love your wife'. Well, that is true, I do love her, more than she knows. But that being said, I was on my way to bed when I popped my head into the kitchen to see her laughing. She was not laughing at the TV comment but at the idea that one of my brothers or friends would catch word of her latest entry. The thought that they would not only laugh at me putting the TV away for a few weeks but really the thought that I might cry during family reading time! It never crossed my mind but I am sure it would my little brothers' minds. So, I had better make it clear right here and right now that although I participate in reading time (when I am home) I do not cry! Cathy and the kids have cried during it but that is where it stops. Zachary and I are usually playing something else and having a good time. Let the emotions stay with her when she teaches.

Now, our children know that the classics are important to their dad. I read them too after my children do and we have discussions about them. I do enjoy taking the lessons from the main characters in the classics and applying them to our lives today. These have become great discussions with my children and I treasure the moments I get to discuss these things with them.

As for the TV, plasma or LCD? 42 or 46 inches? Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Phillips, . . - we shall see!!! Get ready for March Madness!!!

Don't let him fool you. He knows I am right. Now, I just have to convince him that it is his idea! I'm sure we'll find an acceptable compromise. LOL

We did the last same thing last April. I boxed Arron's big screen up and put it away. We haven't got it out since. In September we went out and bought a smaller TV that we have since mounted on the wall so it's not as obtrusive and in the way. Our big 42" is a Panasonic and the little 32" is a Sony Plasma. We've been happy with both brands and got the Plasma because the Japanese salesman pointed at all the boys and then banged his fist on the glass and said "With BOYS and balls you buy plasma". Sold.

Brian we all know that you cry at family reading. You know it's true so don't lie about it. We are glad that you are fully in touch with your feminine side.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE not having TV. It makes life at our house SO much more peaceful and the kids find other things to do, like read or speak to each other. The smaller TV has been a great compromise so that Arron can watch his games but we never hooked it up to cable so you can only watch the main 5 or 6 channels that we have.

Way to go on the TV! Good sacrifice Brian!

Brook (Arron was crying while reading that you had to get rid of your giant TV too, see guys cry all the time)

Brian, the first step to recover is admittance.

From what I'm told, it's o.k. to show emotion when reading "Little Women." Typically my emotion is me screaming at the TV during a soccer match while Brook watches "Pride and Prejudice" and other such shows with the girls in a different room or house if everyone goes according to plan.

We all show emotion in different ways. Its Ok to be different, we still love you. Now we have a new shoulder to cry on and with. :)

Take care brother and yes I do feel your pain of not having a TV to watch sports with. I was able to watch all of the NFL games this weekend. Combination of me being off and there only being 4.

I am still trying to figure out where I will be when the World Cup comes around, regardless of location I will be tired and strung out on coffee.

I love you man(with a silent tear slowly rolling down my cheek.)
